Cavitations

A cavitation is a “hole” in the jawbone where a tooth was extracted, but healthy bone never filled in. This dark, hollow area of bone is the perfect breeding ground for parasites, fungi, bacteria, and viruses. Unfortunately, when most teeth are extracted, the periodontal ligament that attaches the tooth to the jawbone remains. Because this ligament is left behind, the body never senses that the tooth is gone, and therefore new bone does not grow back.
