Cavitations

A cavitation is a “hole” in the jawbone where a tooth was extracted, but healthy bone never filled in. This dark, hollow area of bone is the perfect breeding ground for parasites, fungi, bacteria, and viruses. Unfortunately, when most teeth are extracted, the periodontal ligament that attaches the tooth to the jawbone remains. Because this ligament is left behind, the body never senses that the tooth is gone, and therefore new bone does not grow back.

Cavitations are poorly detected through traditional 2D dental X-rays. However, we can see these cavitations on 3D-CBCT (cone beam) scans, which are the standard of care for every patient in biological dentistry. What is visible on a 3D-CBCT scan is a darkness in the jawbone, a “void”, where the bone failed to re-grow.

Additionally, our patients have the option of having a specialized Visiogenics Report, based on their CBCT scan and prepared for them by Dr. Shahram Ghanaati. This Biologic Surgical Map is then used to prepare the surgical care with precision, and provides the clarity to support true healing of the jawbone. Dr. Thompson has taken numerous educational courses with Dr. Ghanaati, both in the US and in Germany, where Dr. Ghanaati’s surgical center is located.

The process of cavitation surgery at our office involves thoroughly debriding the infected bone until solid and healthy bone is present. We then inject ozone (O3) gas into the site. We fill the space with bone grafting and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) drawn from the patient’s blood, which contains the body’s natural healing factors and promotes healthy bone regeneration. Patients are also given a customized homeopathic remedy to take home, using our Wavefront device.

Cavitations have been silent infections in the jaw that have been largely undetected and ignored by the dental and medical communities. Because it is estimated that a large number of tooth extraction sites (including wisdom teeth) have cavitations, we highly recommend that our patients have a 3D-CBCT scan taken, as well as a Visiogenics Report, in order to diagnose a cavitation. Every cavitation we treat surgically is then biopsied and sent to the DNA Connexions laboratory for testing. The following is a typical report we get back from a cavitation biopsy.

To achieve optimal health and longevity, we believe it is crucial to search for these hidden, silent infections in the jawbone. Call our office to schedule your 3D-CBCT imaging and Visiogenics consultation.

IAOMT Position Paper on Human Jawbone Cavitations.

Cavitations are dead, necrotic areas in the jawbone.
This image is how a jawbone can look in the skull of a person who had a cavitation.

This book is an excellent resource that discusses the connection between cavitations and overall health.
