Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is helpful for assessing an airway because it provides a highly detailed, 3D view of the upper airway’s complex anatomy, offering a more comprehensive evaluation than traditional 2D X-rays. The CBCT generates a 3D volumetric image of the airway space, which allows for a detailed analysis of the airway from every angle, not just the side view.

CBCT software can automatically calculate the total volume of the pharyngealaigway space. A. volumetric measurement of 300-400 mm2 is considered to be the optimal minimum constriction in the airway. According to scientific studies, anyone who is under 110 mm2 is at high risk for sleep apnea, daytime apnea, and other airway-related issues due to improper oxygen intake. The precise, quantifiable data from CBCT imaging is invaluable for Dr. Bailey in planning and evaluating airway disorders.
